  • Tie Summary

Germany and Czech Republic are facing each for the seventh time. The Czechs won their most recent meeting in 2010, which extended their overall head-to-head advantage over the Germans to 5-1. However, four of their six ties took place when the two nations played under the former flags of West Germany and Czechoslovakia.

Germany are two-time Fed Cup winners, in 1987 and 1992, with Steffi Graf spearheading the team on both occasions. Last season, Germany gained promotion back to the World Group after a one-year absence, following wins against Slovenia and USA. They have selected the same venue for this tie – the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart – as the one that was used to host the Americans.

Czech Republic enter this tie as the reigning Fed Cup champions. Their sixth title-winning campaign saw them triumph over Slovak Republic, Belgium and Russia. Their previous five successes were achieved between 1975 and 1988. This is Czech Republic’s fifth straight away tie.
