  • Tie Summary

It is necessary to look back to 1984 to find the only occasion on which these two nations have faced each other. Argentina won that World Group consolation round match 2-0 with Gabriela Sabatini leading the way.

There was little stopping Argentina during their Americas Zone Group I campaign dropping just a single set on their way to the title. They have seen little success in the World Group II play-offs recently having been beaten by Japan and Canada without winning a rubber in the last two years.

China was equally as lethal in their three Asia/Oceania Zone Group I ties on their way to this tie beating Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan without losing a match. China was particularly boosted by the return of Li Na and Zheng Jie for the first time since 2008 and 2009 respectively and are looking for a return to World Group II following a two year absence.
