Czech Republic and Australia have a long history in the Fed Cup although they have not met since 1992 with all the ties being played under the flag of Czechoslovakia. Czech Republic narrowly lead the head-to-head and can also boast of victory in each of the two Finals that the nations competed in.
The Czechs have found a rich vein of form in Fed Cup and in particular Petra Kvitova who has been virtually unbeatable in the competition in the last two years as she led her side into the Final on both occasions. The run has seen them become the top ranked nation in Fed Cup.
Australia have made it back into the World Group after only a years absence thanks to victories over Switzerland and Germany. The latter tie in the World Group play-offs was particularly impressive as Samantha Stosur and Jarmila Gajdosova wrapped up victory within three rubbers against a rapidly improving German team.
