  • Tie Summary

Sweden make the long journey to Argentina in the first round of World Group II. The two nations have met twice previously with the Swedes coming away with the victory on both occasions although the most recent of these was some 35 years ago.

Argentina had a perfect record in their Americas Zone Group I campaign culminating in a 2-0 victory against Colombia in the final to earn a place in the World Group II play-offs against China. With the Chinese sending a considerably under strength team to play at Parque Roca it was a straightforward affair for Argentina as they coasted to a 4-1 victory to earn promotion.

Sweden were also promoted out of the zonal groups in 2012. Having won two of their three round robin matches in Europe/Africa Zone Group I they put up a strong performance to edge out Poland in the promotional play-off to progress. In the World Group II play-off they impressively defeated Great Britain at home by a 4-1 scoreline.
