Ukraine will host Canada in this World Group II play-off. This will be the very first meeting between these two nations and both will be desperate to win.
Ukraine are facing relegation after a 3-1 loss against Spain in the World Group II first round. Ukraine's top young player, Elina Svitolina, almost caused an upset in the opening rubber, narrowly losing 8-6 in the final set to Spain's top player. That was close as Ukraine came to winning a singles match, however, their only point coming in the dead doubles rubber.
Canada are into the World Group II play-offs following a strong showing in Americas Zone Group I. They won all three of their round robin matches without dropping a set, setting up a final showdown with Brazil. They went 1-0 down but their young star Eugenie Bouchard leveled the tie, before they went on to win the doubles, booking their spot in the play-offs.
