  • Tie Summary

France host Switzerland in this World Group II first round clash. The teams have met twice previously, with each nation having won one tie. France won back in 1964 but more recently Switzerland won 5-0 in the World Group semifinal in 1998.

France comfortably defeated Kazakhstan 4-1 in their World Group II play-off. Marion Bartoli made her return to the Fed Cup team after 9 years of absence and won both of her singles rubbers before Alize Cornet sealed the victory.

Switzerland were defeated 3-1 by Australia in their attempt to climb from World Group II to the World Group via the play-offs. There was no play on the first two days due to rain and so the two nations were forced to play the singles rubbers simultaneously. Romina Oprandi scored Switzerland's only point of the tie.
