  • Tie Summary

Australia play host to Russia looking for a first win over the European side since 1983. Although the two nations are locked at 3-3 in previous ties between the teams, Russia has won the last three encounters.

The teams are playing one another for the first time in a decade and the Russians have not had to play on Australia on home soil since 1998.

In 2013, the Australians lost their World Group first round match-up against Czech Republic but maintained their place in the top flight with a 3-1 victory over Switzerland that saw no play until Monday due to rain. Russia, meanwhile, suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Italy in the 2013 Final. They did, however, record a spectacular win over the Slovak Republic in the semi finals, coming from 0-2 down to seal a memorable victory.
