  • Tie Summary

Canada advanced to the elite eight of the Fed Cup for the first time following an impressive victory over Slovak Republic. Aleksandra Wozniak battled to a win against Jana Cepelova, mounting a remarkable comeback after having been a set and a break down. Eugenie Bouchard then overcame a second set wobble against Kristina Kucova to put Canada in the driving seat before finding her form to defeat Cepelova in the third rubber, elevating Canada to its highest position in Fed Cup history. Slovak Republic, meanwhile, semifinalists just last year, must fight it out with the other nations in World Group II in order to return to the Fed Cup's top table.
