  • Tie Summary

France pulled off a surprise victory against a talented USA team to return to the World Group for the first time since 2011. The in-form Caroline Garcia got her team off to the perfect start, as she defeated world No. 17 Sloane Stephens in straight sets, but the Americans rallied as Madison Keys beat an injured Alize Cornet before Stephens made amends with a win against Virginie Razzano. But Garcia scored her second win of the tie to take the contest into the doubles, where she teamed up with Razzano see the French through. USA, meanwhile, must compete in World Group II for the first time in the competition's current format.
