Jelena Jankovic came through two tight sets against her Belgian opponent Kirsten Flipkens, 75 75, to put Serbia ahead in their Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round match.

Jankovic had to battle not only a spirited opponent but also the cold conditions indoors in Charleroi as she took just under two hours to complete the first rubber of the tie. Jankovic was confident of playing again on Sunday as Serbia look to reach the Quarter Finals.

Yanina Wickmayer was able to hit back in the second match and afterwards looked forward to facing Jankovic in the first of Sunday's key matches.
