The ITF has announced the seeds for the Draw for the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group and World Group II play-offs. The Draw will take place on Wednesday 13 February at the ITF offices in London at 10am.
The seeds are based on the new ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking published today (Monday 11 February).
Serbia, USA, Australia and Japan are the four nations seeded in the World Group play-offs and will therefore meet one of Germany, Spain, Sweden or Switzerland in April's clashes.
Germany and Spain lost at the same stage of the competition last year to Australia and Slovak Republic respectively so they will be keen to go one better and reclaim a spot among the world's elite.
Serbia, the highest-ranked of all the World Group play-off participants and last year's runners-up, will be looking to avoid the drop, while Japan and USA, who earned promotion to the World Group last year will be hoping to consolidate their place in the top flight.
In the World Group II play-offs, Belgium, Ukraine, France and Great Britain will be drawn against one of Argentina, Canada, Kazakhstan or Poland to determine which four nations will contest the second tier of the competition next year.
The 2013 World Group and World Group II play-offs will take place alongside the World Group semifinals on 20-21 April. In the semifinals, Russia will be at home to Slovak Republic, and Italy will be at home to Czech Republic.
