Puerto Rico will take on Cuba in final of the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas North/Central American & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying event after both teams enjoyed success in Friday’s semis.
Number one seeds Puerto Rico were made to work hard by hosts El Salvador for their place in the final. Claudia Carrera and Amanda Gomez clinched the all-important point in the doubles rubber, defeating Paola Carpio and Nancy Menjivar 62 64 in an hour and a quarter to seal the tie 2-1.
Puerto Rico had a smoother ride against Barbados as Paola Maza and Chantal Martinez wrapped up victory with wins in their singles rubbers against Kayla Frost and Kiana Marshall.
The winner of Saturday’s final will earn a spot in the North/Central American & Caribbean Final Qualifying event in Montreal on May 2-4, with the ultimate goal being a place in the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals on 24-29 September.
