Chile and Mexico both scored comfortable 3-0 victories in their final Pool B matches on Friday to qualify for Saturday’s promotional play-offs in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group II event in Guadalajara.
Chile topped the group after dropping only seven games against the basement team Costa Rica. Cecilia Costa whitewashed Mariela Haug 60 60, before Chilean No. 1 Andrea Koch overcame Ximena Mineo 60 64. Costa and Camila Silva completed the rout with a 61 62 victory over Juli Raventos and Mareila Haug.
Mexico finished in second place after an even more dominant display against Uruguay, conceding only four games. Marcela Zacarias overcame Sara Quiroga 61 60, before Ana Sofia Sanchez defeated Maria Jose Pintos 60 61. Ana Paula De La Pena and Carolina Betancourt completed the whitewash with a 60 62 drubbing of Pinto and Quiroga.
In the promotional play-offs, the hosts will now take on Trinidad and Tobago, who topped Group A after scoring comfortable 3-0 victories in all three of their matches. Chile will face Group A runners-up Guatemala. The two winners will contest Americas Zone Group I in 2013.
Saturday also sees positional play-offs, with Puerto Rico taking on Ecuador and Uruguay taking on Dominican Republic.
