Chile and Mexico have won promotion to Americas Zone Group I after winning their play-off matches in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group II event in Guadalajara on Saturday.
Chile, who topped Group B after winning all four matches, scored a comfortable 2-0 victory over Group A runners-up Guatemala. Cecilia Costa overcame Kiristen Weedon 64 63, before Chilean No. 1 Andrea Koch defeated Daniela Schippers 61 64. The doubles was not played.
Group B runners-up Mexico overcame the previously unbeaten Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in the other play-off. Marcela Zacarias overcame Annelise Rose 61 61, before Ana Sofia Sanchez won a three-set battle with Yolande Leacock 64 36 61. The doubles was not played.
In the positional play-offs, Puerto Rico defeated Ecuador to finish fifth, while Uruguay finished seventh after a 2-1 success over Dominican Republic.
