SHENZHEN, CHINA: India, Philippines, Hong Kong and Kyrgyzstan all came up winners at the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group II event at the Luohu Tennis Club on Wednesday.

India continued their winning ways by dominating Turkmenistan for their third straight 3-0 victory. Rutuja Bhosale notched a 62 60 singles win over Ummarahmat Hummetova, followed by Prema Bhambri defeating Anastasiya Prenko 61 60. Bhambri then partnered with Iska Lakhani to sweep the doubles rubber without losing a game.

“Can you imagine the excitement there will be in New Delhi and across India tomorrow morning when every newspaper reports on how well our team has been doing? We have set the mark very high here at the Fed Cup for the future development and growth of women’s tennis in India,” said India's captain Rohit Ralpal.

India’s previous best Fed Cup performance came in 2006, when they were runners-up in Asia/Oceania Zone Group I. However, despite not losing a rubber so far, it looks like India will still need to beat Philippines in their remaining round-robin tie to progress to the promotion play-off.

Philippines kept up their 100% record with a 2-1 victory over Oman on Wednesday. Tamitha Nguyen easily handled Maliha Al Awaidy 60 60 to hand Philippines an early lead, but world No. 556 Fatma Al Nabhani upended Anna Clarice Patrimonio 16 64 63 to level the tie.

The doubles rubber was another one-sided affair, however, as Patrimonio and Marian Jade Capadocia defeated Al Awaidy and Al Nabhani 60 63 in exactly one hour. If Philippines can overcome Turkmenistan tomorrow, then Pool B will be decided when Philippines and India meet on Friday.

Hong Kong and Kyrgyzstan heading for showdown

The outcome of Pool A also looks likely to be decided on Friday with Hong Kong and Kyrgyzstan both keeping up their perfect starts to the competition. The two teams are set to meet in their final round-robin tie, although first they face Singapore and Sri Lanka respectively.

Hong Kong lost just five games during their 3-0 drubbing of Pakistan on Wednesday. There were routine victories for Wing-Yau Venise Chan and Ling Zhang in singles play before Zhang teamed up with Zi-Jun Yang to win the doubles.

Kyrgyzstan wrapped up their 2-1 victory over Singapore in the singles. Inna Volkovich outlasted Hannah Chew 62 67(4) 63 in the opening rubber, then Bermet Duvanaeva had an easier time against Geraldine Ang 60 61. Singapore claimed a consolation doubles win.
