Flavia Pennetta will face Alexa Glatch in the opening rubber of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final between Italy and USA, taking place this weekend at Circolo del Tennis "Rocco Polimeni" in Reggio Calabria.
The draw, which was made a few miles from the stadium at Consiglio Regionale della Calabria, also revealed that Francesca Schiavone will meet Melanie Oudin in the second rubber.
On Sunday, the reverse singles match-ups, Pennetta v Oudin and Schiavone v Glatch, will be followed by the doubles rubber, with Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani teaming up against Liezel Huber and Vania King.
Pennetta and Glatch have played each other only once before, earlier this year in the first round at Roland Garros. On this occasion, it was the American who recorded a routine straight sets victory. Pennetta - it should be pointed out - was suffering with an illness, a factor that played a big part in the end result.
Schiavone and Oudin have also met only once - in Indian Wells last year - when experience prevailed in favour of the Italian. Schiavone defeated the teenager from Georgia 61 61 in the first round. Oudin, however, has since matured into a top 50 player and a Grand Slam quarterfinalist.
