CHISINAU, MOLDOVA: Egypt and Liechtenstein will contest Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Zone Group II in 2014 after victories over Moldova and Denmark respectively on Saturday.

Egypt secured a 2-0 victory over hosts Moldova but it was far from plain sailing. Sandra Samir took nearly two hours to battle past Gabriela Porubin 64 76(1) before Magy Aziz won the vital second point in an epic tussle against Anastasia Vdovenco. Aziz, who has benefited from the support of the Grand Slam Development Fund, came back from a set down to win 57 75 62 in three hours four minutes to complete a memorable victory.

Liechtenstein, who had been in form all week, triumphed 2-1 against Denmark despite the highest ranked player in the competition being stunned in the second singles rubber.

Kathinka von Deichmann got the first point for Liechtenstein with a 64 62 win over Maria Jespersen but Stephanie Vogt, ranked world No. 203, couldn't clinch the tie, falling 63 61 to Mai Grage.

Vogt and von Deichmann bounced back to defeat Malou Ejdesgaard and Grage 63 62 to book Liechtenstein's place in Zone Group II in 2014.

Elsewhere, Malta defeated Ireland 2-1 but Morocco and Madagascar were left all square at 1-1 after bad light stopped play at 75 2-2 to the Madagascan doubles duo.

Norway and Armenia scored wins over Namibia and Kenya respectively to avoid finishing in last spot.
