Kazakhstan headlined day three of the 2013 Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event in Kuching, Malaysia, crushing Jordan 3-0 to leapfrog Sri Lanka on sets won and top Group A.

Assel Jumamukhambetova starred for Kazakhstan, playing her part in two 60 60 triumphs as she defeated Rama Bageen without reply in the second singles rubber before teaming with Gozal Ainitdinova and Alice Muasher to deliver another thumping victory in the doubles. Darya Shevchenko had earlier set the tone for Kazakhstan, running through Muasher 62 61.

Sri Lanka joined Kazakhstan as the only other team to have won all of its opening three matches after defeating Krygzstan 2-1. However, Kavindya De Silva and Thewni Dewaraja’s 63 61 defeat to Arina Beliaeva and Eliza Askarova in the final doubles rubber saw them lose their first encounter of the event and drop into second place in the table, having won one set less than Kazakhstan. Even so, the Sri Lankan’s remain in a strong position to seal one of two spots for the Final Qualifying event in Gimcheon, Korea on 22-27 April.

Pakistan kept its hopes of a top two finish alive after polishing off two wins in one day on Wednesday. Rida Khalid and Iman Qureshi comfortably won both of their singles rubbers before combining in the doubles to see off Iran 3-0. Qureshi and Kainat later resumed their third doubles rubber against Kyrgzstan, which had been postponed midway through the second set on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall, and picked up where they left off, securing their second point of the competition after running out 76(2) 76(6) winners over Beliaeva and Askarova.

Kyrgzstan still has an outside chance of finishing in the top two having won one of its opening three encounters, but Iran and Jordan’s hopes appear all but over having each lost all of their first nine rubbers at the event.

North/Central American & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying

In the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Pre-Qualifying event in La Libertad, El Salvador, Jamaica’s dreams of a place in the final Qualifying event in Montreal were ended by top seeds Cuba, who inflicted their second 3-0 defeat of the campaign after an opening day loss to Puerto Rico. Amanda Gomez and Claudia Carrera did the damage for Cuba, dropping just three games in dominant wins in each of their three rubbers.

Second-seeded Dominican Republic won its opening match 2-1 as Karla Portalatin and Ashley Almonte combined to win the deciding doubles rubber 62 64, while third-seeded Guatemala’s girls defeated Bermuda 3-0 after fending off a determined display from their opponents.

El Salvador, meanwhile, climbed above Barbados in Group D after defeating Honduras 3-0. Paola Carpio was made to work hard in the opening singles rubber, eventually prevailing 75 36 75 against Elisa Guillen, but Nancy Menjivar sealed the tie with a 76(5) 64 win over Daniela Obando before Honduras defaulted the final rubber.
