CAIRO, EGYPT: The first day of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group II has been completed at the El Solaimaneyah Club in Cairo, Egypt.

In Pool A, Montenegro's Bladica Babic was the first one to step into court to face Finland's Ella Leivo. Babic won the first set easily 62 but Leivo reacted and took the second in the tie-break 76(5). However, the Finnish player couldn not keep the same high level in the third and deciding set and Babic took the first point for her country 26 76(5) 16.

Danka Kovinic beat Piia Suomalainen in the second singles rubber in another three-set match 64 46 46 and then partenered with Danika Krstajic to beat Finland's Johanna Hyoty and Emma Laine 67(4) 36 and seal the 3-0 overall victory.

In the other Pool A's tie, South Africa beat Denmark 3-0. Despite the comprehensive win for South Africa, the tie had very hard fought matches, in special the first one in which Ilze Hattingh beat Mai Grage 76(1) 57 60.

In Pool B, Georgia beat Norway 3-0. Sofia Kvatsabaia and Anna Tatishvili from Georgia won their respective singles matches against Hedda Odegaard and Emma Flood in straight sets. The doubles rubber was more contested and Ulrikke Eikeri and Flood from Norway took the match to the third set against Sofia Shapavata and Kvatsabaia but could not avoid another defeat for the Scandinavians as the match ended with a 67(6) 64 64 for Georgia.

The other tie in Pool B was the only one that ended with a 2-1 score, in this case favorable to Turkey against Latvia.
