The ITF announced today that the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final between Italy and Russia will be held in Cagliari, Sardinia on 2-3 November. The Final will be hosted by the Italian Tennis Federation (FIT) at the Tennis Club Cagliari outdoors on clay with a seating capacity of 5,000 spectators.

Italy and Russia are the two most successful Fed Cup nations in the 21st century, winning seven titles between them since 2000. Italy is making its fifth appearance in the Fed Cup Final, having won the title on three occasions, in 2006 and 2009-10. Russia is contesting its sixth final in the last ten years, having won four titles, in 2004-05 and 2007-08.

Italy and Russia have met on six previous occasions in Fed Cup, with Russia leading 5-1 in head-to-head encounters. This is their second meeting in a Fed Cup Final, with Russia defeating Italy 4-0 in the 2007 Final in Moscow on hard court.

This is second Fed Cup Final to be staged in Italy since the introduction of the home-and-away format. The 2009 Final was held in Reggio Calabria, with Italy defeating USA 4-0
