BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: Argentina have earned promotion back to the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II following a 64 62 victory for Paula Ormaechea against Wang Qiang at Parque Roca in the third rubber.

Leading 2-0 after the first day's play, Argentina's new No. 1 Ormaechea sealed the South Americans' place in the top tier for next year by putting the hosts into an unassailable 3-0 lead. The final score ended 4-1.

The last time Argentina featured in World Group II was in 2010, when the South American team lost to Estonia and Canada.

The Chinese did salvage some pride after Yi-Mao Zhu beat Florencia Molinero 76(1) 26 63 in the fourth rubber, but for next season, the Asian nation will have to contest Asia/Oceania Zone Group I.

Once again, anxiety played a main role on court for Ormaechea, who felt the pressure of being the Argentine No. 1 and having the possibility of closing the tie on her hands.

“I had the responsibility of starting the tie and finish it. It was difficult for me. Today I was really nervous again, a little bit less than yesterday, but nervous anyway. However, this is tennis and this is what we do, so it’s ok”, confessed the 19-year-old player from Sunchales, a 20,000-people town in the Province of Santa Fe.

Anyway, the outcome was just perfect for the team captained by Bettina Fulco. In the final picture every team member looked completely wet after a champagne shower, that resembled a carnival.

“I feel great, I can’t explain how happy I am at this moment. We finally made it and we’re back in World Group II”, said an excited Ormaechea, whose first two victories in the World Group came in this tie to give Argentina a place back among the 16 top nations.

Furthermore, Ormaechea finishes 2012 having not lost a single set, and giving away only 29 games in six matches between Americas Zone Group and World Group II Play-off, an average of just under 5 games per match.
