Mexico's Marcela Zacarias takes time out from representing her country in the Americas Zone Group I event to keep us up to date with what is going on behind the scenes in Medellin...

On Tuesday we had the official dinner for the start of the tournament. Amazingly, on our table we had the delegate of the Mexican consulate. There were traditional dances and the President of the Colombian Tennis Federation gave a speech. The dinner was delicious, and after it the girls making their debut for the Colombian team had to get up and dance in front of everyone. At the end of the dinner, we were presented with a beautiful bag.

This morning, on centre court, we had the opening ceremony. It was short but very beautiful. All of the teams lined up, and, while we were coming onto the court, they played a traditional song from each country. For us, of course, they played one of Mana’s songs!

After that, the matches began. We had some bad luck in the afternoon and it started to rain in Medellín. We had to stop for three hours, so the ties were all delayed, but we did have some time to relax, chat, read and listen to some music with the Chilean players. The Colombian players, as usual, were dancing!

After returning to the club, I found several girls from the teams had painted their nails with their countries’ colours, and we all took photos so that you can all see…
