MOSCOW, RUSSIA: Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova cited nerves and poor serving as the reason for her defeat against Jelena Jankovic in the opening rubber of Russia's Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group semifinal against Serbia.

The Russian, who had won all three of her previous match-ups against Jankovic, also said the choice of clay was not the reason for the loss, even though all of her previous victories against the Serbian have come on hard court.

Jankovic, meanwhile, was happy to give her country the lead and said she was hopeful that it signalled good things for her team this weekend.

Svetlana Kuznetsova, who was so focused during her match with Ana Ivanovic that she didn't realise she had won, looks back on a job well done while Ivanovic takes the positives from her first match on clay this year.
