Nobody would have predicted that Dominika Cibulkova would have been unable to finish her match when serving for it at 5-4 in the second set nor would anyone have thought Japan and an under-strength USA team could have come so close to causing upsets in the first round.
As for World Group II, Switzerland made a mockery of their status as outsiders against Belgium and Argentina looked far better than their rankings would have suggested - especially leading 2-0 on day one.
