CHARLEROI, BELGIUM: Serbia jumped two places to No. 5 in the rankings after edging past Belgium 3-2 in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round in Charleroi. It was a first ever World Group victory for the Serbs and their reward is a trip to face Russia in the semifinals.

A pair of wins for Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer and one each for Serbia's Jelena Jankovic and Bojana Jovanovski meant this tie was destined to be decided in a nail biting fifth rubber. With Jankovic suffering from a thigh injury, it was left to Serbian duo Jovanovski and Aleksandra Krunic to seal the winning point by defeating Wickmayer and Alison Van Uytvanck in three sets.
