Next tie 2014
Australia will compete in the World Group next year. The draw for next year's Fed Cup by BNP Paribas will take place on Wednesday 10 July.
Last tie 20-21 April 2013
Despite being scheduled to take place on 20-21 April, a ball was not hit in Australia's tie against Switzerland until Monday 22 April after rain washed out the first two days in Chiasso. With time short, the singles rubbers were played simultaneously and Australia wasted no time in securing the victory thanks to commanding performances from Sam Stosur and Ashleigh Barty.
History
Australia are second on the all-time champions list, having won the title seven times in 1964, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1974. Australia are one of only four nations to have competed in every Fed Cup.
Record
In 1968, Aussie duo Margaret Court and Kerry Melville went into the record books for playing the most number of games in a doubles rubber (51), beating Winnie Shaw and Virginia Wade 97 36 1412.
