Next tie 2015
Australia will remain in the World Group for 2015. The draw will be made in Paris on Wednesday 7 June 2014.
Last tie 19-20 April 2014
Australia were overpowered by a strong German team in Brisbane, missing the chance to reach the final for the first time since 1993. Andrea Petkovic opened the tie in style for Germany, with an impressive win against Sam Stosur, before Angelique Kerber doubled the away team's advantage with a blistering performance against Casey Dellacqua. Stosur gave Kerber a much tougher examination in the third rubber, but the German eventually prevailed in three sets to send her team through to the final.
Australia are second on the all-time champions list, having won the title seven times in 1964, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1974. Australia are one of only four nations to have competed in every Fed Cup.
In 1968, Aussie duo Margaret Court and Kerry Melville went into the record books for playing the most number of games in a doubles rubber (51), beating Winnie Shaw and Virginia Wade 97 36 1412.
