Canada have a chance to gain promotion to the World Group for the first time since 1994 when they play host to Slovak Republic. They have met just once previously in the competition when the Slovaks whitewashed Canada in a World Group II play-off in 1997.
Last tie 8-9 February 2014
Canada defeated Serbia in Montreal as Eugenie Bouchard made light work of an under-strength opposition team. Aleksandra Wozniak was chosen as Canada's No. 2 and began proceedings by beating Vesna Dolonc before Bouchard took over and rolled past Jovana Jaksic and then Dolonc to guarantee victory. Nina Stojanovic and Jaksic restored some pride for the visitors by winning the doubles.
Canada’s best performances have been reaching the semifinals, in 1988, and the quarterfinals on three occasions, in 1964, 1967 and 1987. They have also only missed one Fed Cup since the inaugural competition in 1963.
