China just missed out on the promotion play-off by finishing second in their pool. They defeated Korea Rep. in their opening tie, lost to Uzbekistan, but regrouped for a 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei. They finished 4th overall in Asia/Oceania Group I after losing the 3rd/4th place play-off to Thailand.

China enjoyed their best Fed Cup performance in 2008 when they reached the semifinals.
