Next tie 8-9 February 2014
Czech Republic must travel to Spain for the first round of the World Group in 2014. The Czechs trail 2-1 in previous encounters between the two nations but will go in as favourites as the No. 1 nation on the Fed Cup Rankings.
Last tie 20-21 April 2013
Czech Republic failed to make it three finals in a row after falling to Italy in the semifinals in 2013. The Czechs faced an uphill battle after losing the opening two rubbers but Petra Kvitova gave the defending champions hope with a win over Sara Errani in the battle of the No. 1s. The tie was completed on Monday due to rain as Roberta Vinci clinched the tie with victory over Lucie Safarova in three sets.
The Czechs have been crowned champions on seven occasions - in 1975, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1988, 2011 and 2012. The first five of these wins came under the flag of Czechoslovakia, which they played as until 1992. The Czechs then played as Czech & Slovak Republics in 1993 and Czech Republic since 1994.
