Spain travels to Kraljevo in Serbia for the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II first round. Spain has never defeated Serbia, having lost to Yugoslavia in 1979 and Serbia in 2009, the nations' two previous meetings.

Spain travelled to Argentina in an attempt to retain its World Group II status for 2016. Sara Sorribes Tormo and Lara Arruabarrena earned victories on the opening day and, when Arruabarrena defeated Paula Ormaechea 61 46 97, Spain had the tie secured. 18-year-old Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov made her Fed Cup debut in the doubles rubber as Spain secured a 4-0 whitewash.
Spain have been crowned champions five times - in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1998. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario holds the record for the most number of Fed Cup wins (72), most singles wins (50) and, teaming up with Conchita Martinez, the most successful doubles partnership (18 wins).
