France is through to a World Group semifinal for the first time since 2007. The French will travel to Ostrava to play Czech Republic with a place in November's final at stake.
Last tie 7-8 February 2015
France became just the seventh team to come back from 0-2 down in the World Group as they came back to stun Italy in Genoa. Trailling 2-0 after the opening day, Amelie Mauresmo brought in Kristina Mladenovic, who inspired the turnaround with a 64 63 win against Sara Errani. Caroline Garcia then defeated Camila Giorgi 46 60 62 before Garcia and Mladenovic inflicted Errani and Roberta Vinci's first-ever Fed Cup loss as a pair to complete the comeback.
France were crowned champions in both 1997 and 2003. They also reached the Final in 2004 and 2005 and are one of only four nations to compete in every Fed Cup.
In 1997, France's World Group first round tie against Japan entered the record books on three counts - most number of games in a tie (162) and joint most number of games in a rubber (54) and set (32), when Nathalie Tauziat defeated Naoko Sawamatsu 75 46 1715.
