France will compete in World Group II for the third consecutive year. Their first round opponents will be announced later on this year.
Last tie 21-22 April 2013
France maintained their World Group II status after a comfortable 4-1 win over Kazakhstan in the World Group II play-offs. Marion Bartoli, making her return to Fed Cup after 9 years of absence, was an integral part of France's victory, winning both of her singles rubbers. Alize Cornet sealed the win with only her second win in 11 Fed Cup singles rubbers.
History
France were crowned champions in both 1997 and 2003. They also reached the Final in 2004 and 2005 and are one of only four nations to compete in every Fed Cup.
Record
In 1997, France's World Group first round tie against Japan entered the record books on three counts - most number of games in a tie (162) and joint most number of games in a rubber (54) and set (32), when Nathalie Tauziat defeated Naoko Sawamatsu 75 46 1715.
