Next round 2015
Georgia will return to Europe/Africa Zone Group I next year after winning all its ties in the Group II event in Lithuania.
Last round 16-19 April 2014
After disappointing results in 2013, Georgia enjoyed a much more fruitful season this year, albeit at a lower level, as the team lost just two rubbers all week and made an instant return to Zone Group I. Sandwiched between two comfortable 3-0 wins over Egypt and Bosnia/Herzegovina in the pool stages was a dramatic 2-1 victory against South Africa, decided in a marathon three-set doubles rubber. The promotional play-off against Finland also went to a third rubber, but the Georgians, inspired by Sofia Shapatava, who was unbeaten in all of the rubbers she played, pulled through to seal promotion.
Georgia began playing Fed Cup as an independent nation in 1994 and are yet reach the World Group stages of the competition. Their best performances have been playing in Europe/Africa Zone Group I, which they have done on a number of occasions. Prior to 1994, players from Georgia represented USSR.
