Next tie 2015
Italy will remain in the World Group for 2015. The draw takes place in Paris on Wednesday 4 June 2014.
Last tie 19-20 April 2014
Italy was unable to repeat last year's heroic semifinal performance against Czech Republic, as a Petra Kvitova-inspired Czech team blitzed the 2013 champions to reach the final. World No. 10 Sara Errani fell to Lucie Safarova in the first rubber, as the clay-court specialist struggled with the fast surface in Ostrava. Kvitova continued the Czech charge with a comfortable win against Camila Giorgi, before battling to victory against Roberta Vinci in the first match on Sunday to seal the tie for Czech Republic.
Italy are one of only four nations to compete in every Fed Cup, and have been crowned champions on four occasions - in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013. In 2006, Italy became the first nation to win the title without playing a home tie, since the home-and-away format was adopted in 1995.
Roberta Vinci is the record holder in Fed Cup for winning the most doubles rubbers without defeat. Her ongoing run is currently at 18-0.
