Next tie 8-9 February 2014
Following their 2013 triumph, Italy must travel to Cleveland for the first round of the 2014 Fed Cup. The Italians have defeated the USA on each of the last three occasions, most recently at the same stage last year, where a doubles win for Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci secured the narrowest of victories.
Last tie 2-3 November 2013
Italy sealed victory in the 2013 Fed Cup final on home soil, defeating Russia 4-0 in Cagliari. Roberta Vinci came through an epic singles match against Alexandra Panova, before Sara Errani won both of her singles matches to wrap up the title for the Italians. It was their fourth Fed Cup triumph.
Italy are one of only four nations to compete in every Fed Cup, and have been crowned champions on four occasions - in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013. In 2006, Italy became the first nation to win the title without playing a home tie, since the home-and-away format was adopted in 1995.
Roberta Vinci is the record holder in Fed Cup for winning the most doubles rubbers without defeat. Her ongoing run is currently at 18-0.
