The Italians look to continue the defence of their title when they face Czech Republic on the road in the World Group semifinals. The sides are meeting in the semifinals for the fourth time in the last five years with the home side winning each of the previous three before going on to claim the title

Italy began their title defence in comfortable fashion with a 3-1 victory over USA in Cleveland. Karin Knapp began proceedings with a win over Christina McHale before Camila Giorgi took the visitors to the brink of victory. Knapp returned on the second day to wrap things up with a straight sets victory over Alison Riske before the Americans took a consolation point in the doubles.
Italy are one of only four nations to compete in every Fed Cup, and have been crowned champions on four occasions - in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013. In 2006, Italy became the first nation to win the title without playing a home tie, since the home-and-away format was adopted in 1995.
Roberta Vinci is the record holder in Fed Cup for winning the most doubles rubbers without defeat. Her ongoing run is currently at 18-0.
