Russia is through to a sixth final in 10 years but is looking to win its first Fed Cup title since 2008 when it takes on Italy in the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final. The Russians go into this year's showpiece with a 5-1 lead in previous meetings against Italy, including a victory in the 2007 final.

The Russians created history in the World Group semifinal against Slovak Republic this year by becoming the first nation to come back from 0-2 down to win a semifinal since the inception of the World Group in 1995. Ekaterina Makarova proved her mettle to win the fourth and fifth rubbers for a second consecutive tie having also done so against Japan in the first round this year.
History
Russia have been crowned champions four times - in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. Prior to their first title, they had lost in the Final on four occasions, and they have since lost another Final in 2011. From 1968 to 1991, Russian players represented USSR and then CIS in 1992.
