Next tie 8-9 February 2014
Russia will be looking to bounce back from their 2013 Final defeat to Italy when they travel to Australia for the first round in 2014. This will be the first meeting of the two teams in a decade, with each nation having won three ties in their six previous meetings.
Last tie 2-3 November 2013
A strong Italian team proved themselves to be too much for Russia to handle in the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final. Alexandra Panova pushed Roberta Vinci all the way in the first rubber, before losing out in an exceptionally tight final set, but world number seven, Sara Errani, won both of her singles rubbers to seal victory for Italy.
Russia have been crowned champions four times - in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. Prior to their first title, they had lost in the Final on four occasions, and they have since lost another two Finals, in 2011 and 2013. From 1968 to 1991, Russian players represented USSR and then CIS in 1992.
