Next tie 2016
Ukraine will compete in Europe/Africa Zone Group I for the third consecutive year in 2016.
Last tie 4-7 February 2015
Ukraine had appeared destined for a place in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I promotional play-off after opening round robin victories over Turkey and Lietchtenstein, only to suffer a 3-0 defeat to Great Britain in their final round robin. Lesia Tsurenko fell to Johanna Konta, before Elina Svitolina lost to Heather Watson in a tight three sets to leave their hopes of a spot in the promotional play-off resting on the doubles. Olga Savchuk and Svitolina had to win in straight sets to guarantee Ukraine’s progress, but the duo narrowly lost 67(6) 75 64 to Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith and ultimately had to be content with 9th place after beating Bulgaria in the positional play-off.
Ukraine reached the World Group for the first time in 2010, and returned to the top division again in 2012. Prior to 1993, Ukrainian players represented USSR.
