Comprehensive losses to Colombia and Canada in Venezuela's two opening matches meant that a victory in its final round-robin tie against Peru was not enough to avoid a relegation play-off. The team held firm to retain its position in Americas Zones Group I after defeating Chile 2-1 in a deciding doubles rubber.
