Pennetta wins match - Italy is Fed Cup by BNP Paribas champion!

It's all over. Italy is the 2009 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas champion. Pennetta drops to her knees. Oudin played ok but the world No. 11 had too much in her locker. Cue celebrations, tears, dancing... the Italians are loving it!

Oudin is broken again. Unforced error, unforced error, etc. Pennetta rises from her chair early and looks ready. Four points from glory...

I spoke too soon! Oudin seems to produce her best tennis when her back is against the wall. That was a good break of serve. Plenty more work to be done but its not over yet. Is Pennetta starting to feel the pressure?

The last few games have been disastrous for Oudin - the wheels have well and truly come off. Pennetta secures the double break and I suspect Italy is not too far away from clinching its second Fed Cup title. This match is a carbon copy of Oudin's loss against Francesca Schiavone yesterday.

Easy hold to love for Pennetta. Has Oudin got anything left in the tank? The Italian will take some stopping now. She's growing in confidence.

Oudin's backhand let's her down again with a couple of unforced errors from 30-15. That's been the weak link in the American's game. Pennetta seals the break with a fantastic crosscourt backhand winner and Oudin is now in all sorts of trouble.

Pennetta saved two break points in that game - one with an ace. Everytime Oudin has asked the question, the Italian has found the answer. Oudin needs to find a way of capitalising on these opportunities if she is to keep USA in this Final.

That's an important hold for Oudin. She marks the game winning point with a loud "C'monnn". The teenager isn't going away, there's still plenty of tennis to be played here.

That's it. Pennetta celebrates winning the set with a fist pump. Oudin fought back well in that set but her game deserted her on the big points. The tannoy is pumping out 'Tonight's going to be a good night' - Black Eyed Peas. I think it will be for the Italians!

Oh dear, Oudin worked so hard to break back but has thrown it away with a double fault. She showed her inexperience in that game. She needed to take her time and gain her composure. Back to square one! By the way, there are a few drops of rain in the air. Not enough to stop play... yet!

Oudin is such a fighter, great effort. She comes back from 0-30 to win four straight points and we're back on serve. Pennetta can't believe she's given that away. The American has been edging her way back into this match and she deserves to be on level terms.

Oudin holds to force Pennetta to serve for the set. The next game is crucial for the young American. The job will get a lot harder if she goes a set down. Mary-Joe is sharing some words of wisdom at the change.

Almost, that was close. Pennetta saved a break point with an ace and hangs on after a few deuces. The quality of this match has gone up a couple of gears in the last five minutes. Oudin isn't out of this set yet but the Italian is playing the big points very well.

Oudin is hanging in there. We know she's a gritty player. That was a good, solid service game. Can she find a way through on Pennetta's serve?

Good stuff from Pennetta - comfortable hold. Big serves and heavy groundies. This is looking a little ominous for Oudin... the Italian is really in the mood. Incidentally, there's a good crowd in today.

Too many unforced errors from both players. Oudin holds after a couple of deuces. She is much more effective when she gets inside the baseline and attacks but all too often she finds herself on the defensive.

There was a chance for Oudin in that game. She had Pennetta at 15-30 when a drop shot from the Italian hit the net cord and rolled agonisingly over.

Oudin is off the mark. A hold to love courtesy of four errors from Pennetta. Nevertheless, the Italian is dominating points and Oudin is being forced onto the back foot. Still early days...

It's been an excellent opening two games from Pennetta. She holds to love to stretch her lead. Schiavone is sat on the bench today supporting her teammate - a sign of real confidence. Yesterday she was absent preparing for her match.

Oudin gets proceedings under way but is immediately broken - not a good start for the American. She threw a few unforced errors in there. Pennetta looks like she means business today. She's more intense than the start of her match against Alexa Glatch yesterday.

Welcome to the second day of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final. I'm afraid to report that the rain clouds are once again gathering above Reggio Calabria... but we may get lucky! The players are on court warming up. A big day for both teams.
