| Plenty of options for Tarpischev |
Russian captain Shamil Tarpischev has said that he expects world No.3 Svetlana Kuznetsova or Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova to forefront Russia's challenge against the USA in April's Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal.
Sharapova made her Fed Cup debut for Russia in Tel Aviv, leading them to a 4-1 first-round win, while Svetlana Kuznetsova missed the quarterfinal in Israel, but has made herself available for the clash against the Americans.
Tarpishchev interestingly said that the surface for the tie against the United States has yet to be decided. "If we have Kuznetsova we'll play on clay, with Sharapova it'll be a hard court. Of course, we can also make a last-minute switch depending on who the Americans will bring. If it's the Williams sisters, almost certainly we'll pick clay."
The tie is due to be played on April 26-27.
