| First Round venues for 2009 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas |
Russia will begin its Fed Cup by BNP Paribas title defence at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, on indoor hard court, while 2008 runners-up Spain will travel to Brno to face Czech Republic for its first round tie. United States will start its campaign against Argentia at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex, an arena which received the 2008 USTA Outstanding Facility Award.
Serbia, which currently boasts two of the world's top five players, will make its World Group II debut at the 20,000 capacity Belgrade Arena against Japan.
The full list of proposed venues for the first round of the 2009 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group and World Group II, to be played the weekend of 7-8 February, is as follows (subject to final confirmation by the ITF):
