Last tie USA edged past Russia 3-2 in a nail biting semifinal clash in Birmingham, Alabama that was decided in the fifth rubber. Melanie Oudin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands recorded singles wins for the home nation, before Mattek-Sands teamed up with Liezel Huber to clinch the vital point.
History USA has won more titles than any other nation, having been crowned champion 17 times. This includes seven straight victories between 1976 and 1982.
